This was a good test of the double. While one can use it for any length of trip, we have decided we will use it mostly on our local weekend rides where we don't have to take a lot of stuff along. We got a lot better fuel mpg with the double hitch carrier, but for long, out of state trips, we'll use a trailer so we can bring more stuff like tools and gas cans a generator if need be etc.
The double worked but I have to add another hitch tightener. Because I use a hitch extender to clear the overhanging camper, the receiver's need a hitch tightener to take the "sag" out. I did have 1 and used it at the truck receiver/hitch extender connection. I need another one where the carrier inserts into the extender.
There are many different tightening brackets but this is the type I got with the carrier.
