guess i would just say i am not capable of handling a top end rebuilt, after researching about it on youtube ... needs more tools, experience, space and time than i thought.

Before you give up I highly recommend viewing B-Dubs excellent thread about his base gasket replacement . It covers everything related to tearing down the top end and putting things back together. The videos are very informative and confidence building. I was like you before viewing..."No way" I said. Then I viewed B-dub's post and videos and came away thinking "I can do that!". B-dub patiently explains all the tools and techniques which makes a rebuild feasible.
Even if you do not do the work yourself you will come way understanding your bike much better after reviewing the following link.

Every time I read about yet another one of these cases, it's even more freakin unbelievable than the one before, that they just keep on happening. WTF Yamaha!?!?!?!?

A bad oil filter usually causes damage around 25 miles, or 40 kilometer. As many miles / kilometers as you have gone I am thinking it probably isn't the oil filter. Easiest thing to do is remove the filter and look. Then decide what has to be done.

Sorry, it doesn't sound very promising for you.

When I blew up my engine, it didn't make a clunking sound. It just lost power rapidly. I just shut it down a coasted to a stop. When I tried to restart it, it made the scratching sound you describe. You may have a broken valve hitting on top of the piston causing the clunking noise in addition to the other noises.

I'm afraid it's probably not good news unless there is something totally different making the noise. To find out you'll probably have to tear the engine down, which sounds like something you're not able to do, but if you could, it would be worth an exploratory look to make sure.

When I tore my engine down, it wasn't good news! I ending up buying a new TW.

Thanks so much Fred! That would definitely be very helpful! I tore down an XL185 before, so I kind of have a brief idea what to expect, though I nvr had the chance to put it back together.

I'm going to push the bike back to my work place later, about 5km distance but I think it's manageable. That's the only space I have to tear the bike apart, just have to be very careful not to get oil stain everywhere. Will update here if I managed to pull off maybe just the top case today, thats my goal for today.

I also called a bike shop recommended by the local TW community, but the guy told me they ran out of spare parts and they can't handle my bike at least for this month, that's why I decide I might as well pull it apart and see how bad it is.

it shouldn't be the oil filter as elime had point out bro, i'm really suspecting the culprit to be the valve as I have heard whistling noise from the engine for the previous few weeks, a brief search on google suggests it is the symptom of a loosen valves. I thought I would get it checked this weekend when I go back to Malaysia, but too bad it couldn't make it.

Could you maybe pay some kids a few Singapore Dollars to help push you broken babe to your place of work? It is something I would have done for free just for the adventure as kid. "Cool, guess what?! I got to push a motorcycle today!"

Once there if you have the tools might as well remove the cylinder head. Perhaps carefully bag and label all the nuts and bolts if you think another mechanic might finish the job eventually.
