I was able to test my CDI with a pair of pliers. The bike wouldn't start but, but when I squeezed the CDI with a pair of pliers, it started right up (I could even adjust the speed of idle with the pressure I applied with the pliers). It certainly didn't "fix" the problem but it indicated I had found the problem.

From your measurements I'd say its your ignition coil. Before you go any further than this, re-assemble the ignition, put it back on the bike (don't worry about gaskets and stuff), plug in all the wiring, and now test it all again like they say in the manual. Some of the measurements are not the same with all the coils disconnected and removed from the bike.

From what he wrote it looks that way. Your 100% correct. He needs to re-measure that coil first.

I have measured AG200 stators on the bench and they don't show the correct readings until hooked up on the bike, with all the wiring connected.

IF your measurements on the coil are correct (16.89Ω on the primary and secondary side - which suggests an internal short), the value is higher in resistance than the specified value (0.18 ~ 0.28Ω) so it would draw LESS current from the CDI unit. I'd say your CDI is OK. The CDI would have protection for a short anyway I'd say.

If you want more confirmation the coil is dead, get it up on the bench and set it up like the guy below, this will confirm the coil is dead independent of any measurements if you are unsure.

If you confirm its the coil, check out partsShark for the coil here, cheap as chips at $35.

Or you could hit the wreckers because if you cross reference the part numbers there are a lot of Yamahas that use that coil.

I first tested everything on the bike after replacing the battery. Got the same numbers on and off the bike. I removed the stator assembly because the BR-GR wires for the source coil wasn't giving me anything. Cut off the conector and tested it with the bare wires three different meters and three different people. Pick up coil tested good on and off the bike but I figure it's best to replace both after all the both have 50,000 miles of hot hard riding. Mostly asphalt in traffic and highway speeds. Thanks for all the help. Will post how it goes.

Sharing the pictures of new parts versus old parts. The new source coil tested correct old source coil still testing bad. Same with the new ignition coil. Pick up coil was not bad but felt it best to replace after all the abuse.
