Removing the plug from the pilot jet mixture screw

Just wondering if there's a preferred way to remove the plug from the pilot jet mixture screw to minimize the chance of causing potential damage and screwing something up.

In a few days I'm going to remove mine. On the few carbs where I've removed the plug I've drilled a tiny hole and threaded a screw into the hole just a tiny bit and pulled it out. Although if I remember correctly, I think I did my first carb plug by drilling a small hole and using a 90 degree pick to pry it out. Both methods work fine but the screw is probably better.

Big thing is be patient while drilling and don't push too hard or the bit is gonna ram into the adjustment screw head underneath when it breaks through, dickering it up.

I used a deck screw on my 2006 without drilling. The 88 plug seemed thicker so I used a drill bit then used the deck screw.
