There is another and much easier option. If you know a friend locally with a good running TW that is between 1987 and 2000 just swap carbs so you can be sure the issue is carb related. That is what I did with a pal who rebuilt his carb and did all the fancy jets and needle shimming stuff so his bike ran good. His carb on my bike ran great so I just bought a new carb rather than waste any more of my short riding season futzing around waiting for parts to arrive. Even funnier, after I got my bike running with a new totally stock carb right out of the box I raced my buddy with his jetted and shimmed carb and beat the snot out of him. Not really a fair comparison because he outweighs me by about 70 pounds but my bike hit 65 MPH a heck of a lot quicker than his. How cool is that? Two TWs racing down the lane of a state highway and you can't even get a speeding ticket at 65 MPH. Mine would get close to 70 with a stiff tail wind or down a steep hill.

Smooth move Exlax! Then you can bang your head thinking about all the time and money you wasted once you are blasting down the trails. Just so you know, you are by far not alone here and we have read this same story many times. I could have wrote the book on it. Member JBfla is my self appointed carb guru here and I have often thought about sending my bad carb to him just to see if he could find the flaw and make it right. I always just figured once I got my bike running good I would mess with the old carb and try to figure it out. Never gonna happen because as long as the bike runs good there is no way I would go through all that crap for nothing.

Steve -- Do you still want the jets?

If you are going with a new one, how much do you want for the old one? It seems I can't get enough carburetors around here.

I am leaning towards a new carb as well and tonight I will add a filter just to be safe. The tank is clean and I checked the petcock and the filters are clean. I have used small wires and pushed them through every hole. I will double check again before buying a new one, but this is killing me.

Gary can you give me the link to a new carb for $260?

    Thanks Guys!
I'd take the advice and go for a new carb. I've been in situations where there's no other choice. I bought my 16' brand new and it obviously had a new carb. The only thing I did was drill out the plug for the fuel screw and replace the #31 pilot with a 34, just to richen it up a bit. With my bike, as long as it been idling longer than 30 seconds, you can twist the throttle as fast as you want and there's no hesitation or hiccup.

Edit, didn't read far enough ahead but read you got one. Good choice.

Nice TW I have the same year 1990. You can find your fork boots now but hurry because they run out. I am having a hard time finding new seat cover.

Steve you would be so grateful if you make sure your tank is spotless clean & you have a Fuel filter installed before you connect the new Carb, If you don't you will plug the new one up very quick, That the same mistake that I done.
I will never run My Tw's with out a Fuel filter again. I think I would rather smack my fingers with a Slug Hammer.
