GF is doing the bowling thing with friends so I'm tagging along and bringing the TW200 for some riding. Anyone who lives in the Carson city area interested in riding the area or if can't make it at least tell me the best local area's to ride? Coming up Friday the 25th. Would like to ride both 26 and 27th.

Oo! Oo! Oo!

I'm in! There's LOTS over there and in between there and Virginia City. I think I'd suggest the Pine Nut Mtns. A spot called Jumbo Grade is excellent too. This is just North of C.C. to the East of Washoe lake...Virginia City is just above this riding area. If you're curious, you can take a look at a map, look just east of Carson City / Carson Valley. I think they stretch for like 30-40 miles. TONS of trails and bunches and bunches of single track. (I have a fort out there too!)

Cool! let me know which day (or both) is best for you. Maybe we can get Phil (and his vintage 2stroke bike) and Fred to go too. I'll come better prepared this time....lol. ;)

Sounds like fun Evan.Gosh, maybe we should let Adam take the lead on this one and be our guide. That is if it is not stealing your great idea, know you want to share those pictographs you found last time. I will really try to make it, it will be alot warmer than last time and I would like to learn the Pine Nuts.

Pine nut mountain ride it is......Rurindum, Your more the welcome to join us. Last ride was in Fred's backyard and had a blast. I think the Petroglyphs I found last time aren't really that close to pine nut mountains are they? There were in between Sparks and Virginia City. Which day works best for everyone?

I'm flexible as well on either day. I do think it would be great to have rurlndum come as well; I've not seen the Smith Valley (East) side of the Pine Nuts and would love to. The riding in those Mtns. is nearly infinite! I'm sure Phil is in to go as well. I also have a buddy, not sure if he's active on the forum anymore, that rides an 05' TW, he's located just outside of Virginia City. He just got his top end redone and is breaking her in now. I'll present this to him too!

Yeah, the Petroglyphs are not close, about an hour and a half ride or so away. I'm really up for anything that you plan out Evan. I have the 24th and 25th off, so I'm thinking if we plan for the 26th, I'll camp out Friday night. Again though, I'm up for either day. If you'd like suggestions on staging spots, I can help.

rurlndum,

If I were to propose a staging spot near Dayton and ride through Eldorado Canyon, accessing them from the North, would there be a way you could meet us there? Or is that too far away?

okay, Saturday the 26th it is. We'll work out when/where to meet. Adam's campsite? I'll ride out from carson city if its not too far away or can drive pickup with bike in back if further then I feel like driving Tw on pavement.

I will meet you guys where ever the decided spot is. Since it's all BLM land, there's not designated spots to camp. I'd hate to see everyone spending half the day finding me :)

Oh, golly. I forgot about the Virginia City grand prix - it's the 26th. I was thinking it would be fun to ride up there, then down into Dayton and to the Pine Nuts through Eldorado Canyon (which is very nice) Alas, six mile canyon road will be closed. We could just meet in Carson City and ride out from there. A couple options from there...ride a bit East on Hwy 50 to Dayton, or, ride a bit south on Hwy 395 to Carson Valley, then cut East directly into the Pine Nuts. What say you, gentlemen?

....some year I'd love to register for the grand prix open class. I'd probably get beat pretty good, but it would be awesome! We should get a gang of TWs for it!

Adam, if you still plan to camp-out perhaps a rendezvous in Dayton or someplace easy for you to ride out and meet us makes sense. For the Pine Nut area Mike & I would probably ferry bikes from Reno area in pick-ups so we could meet and start almost anywhere, could even be decided via cell phones after you and buddies figure out where you will be. I trust your judgement, i know little of area but gps and cell and cell's mapping make a remote meeting possible. Up for anything Kimosabe.

nfpgasmask, yes on the off road TW! I'm fine with meeting Adam close to where he can ride to. Staying at carson city hotel so will decide to ride or truck Tw to where Adam wants us to meet him.

Hey guys!

Wow, I appreciate your flexibility :) However, I've decided not to camp out on Friday night. It'll just be easier to focus on what's most important - The Ride! So, I'd really like to show you guys Eldorado canyon and enter the Pine Nuts that way, as I think it's most beautiful. But, it would require a back track either by paved road (Hwy 395 & Hwy 50 - or just Hwy 50) or a back track through the Pine Nuts the way we came. I'm down for either. I would suggest either:

A.) Meet up at the Chevron in Dayton on Hwy 50
B.) Meet at an easy location in Carson City on Hwy 50 - perhaps the AM/PM, then ride up to Dayton via Hwy 50 (55 mph) about a 20 minute ride on pavement.
C.) We could enter the Pine Nuts via Johnson Lane (Carson Valley) off of Hwy 395 and then Sunrise Pass Road (dirt) will take us all the way back. (Meet at staging area at end of Johnson Lane)...leave trucks at staging area - no pavement riding required.

Option C would not include Eldorado Canyon or the general Dayton area.
Whattaya think?

I don't like making decisions, as you maybe can tell.

I vote option A) because I would like you to show us Eldorado Canyon.
Maybe evan's casino/motel parking lot in Carson makes a good modified plan B)B)
We need Mike's opinion after all since we have hijacked his trip, and see if Runindum can make it too.
Good planning Adam.
Time? Early so as to beat the heat? Later so Mike can paint the town Friday night after a long drive? I'm Flexible Fred but I propose 9am.

sounds like you have a great trip planned! take lots of pics.

fred we'll meet you in just over three weeks at cow mountain. :)

Plan A sounds good to me. Meet at chevron in Dayton at 9am. I'm going to ride my tw there from casino. Will we be hitting the trail right from Dayton? * my internet search doesn't show a chevron but looks like tiny town so whatever gas station is there? 76 union? looks to be 9 mile drive on 50 for me.

#24 ·
Awesome! I shall ride up from Reno then, 9 am sounds great. Six Mile Canyon closes at 8am (for the moto race), so I think I'll be there early - no big deal. Cutting through V.C. saves me from spinning TW past 9,500 rpms on the freeway ;)

You know, Mike, you're right! By golly it's been over a year since I've been out this way, I don't see the Chevron either. I'm going to replicate this ride on Saturday, so I can make sure I can lead ya'all there without a hiccup and find out what gas station / road this is. I'm excited!

#25 ·
Ok, guys!

The correct gas station to meet at will be the Sinclair, on the corner of Hwy 50 and Dayton Valley road (used to be Chevron :) ). There's a nice little picnic table in the back that I will be at and hopefully Phil too. I will check in time to time throughout the week to see if anything changes.

I look forward to another ride with you guys!
