Thanks guys.
And I appreciate your words of wisdom Babaganoush, I am just hitching my wagon train and following where you and some of the others have already blazed the trail.
Good advice about increasing the ante slowly.

Centerline, why didn't you bring your TW over for a carb tune. I have both the genuine Yamaha jets for other TW models with the same carb and needle spacers. It only takes 15 minutes and it isn't necessary to remove the carb.

Have you done the pilot screw adjustment?

Everyone keep in mind that U. S. of A. bikes are intentionally jetted lean from the factory to appease the EPA treehuggers. This causes all sorts of nasty habits, like off-idle and midrange throttle response problems, high engine temperatures, surging at sustained cruise, etc. A good carb tune will find seat-of-the pants increases in low speed and mid range torque, throttle response, and smoother cruise operation. There will be a slight loss in fuel efficiency, though.

Beware any air intake mods that lower the air intake. If you want to dualsport with the rest of us DFWers sometime you'll need all the intake height you can get on some of the water crossings.

My advice for those who have performed my air box mod and still need a stock intake for submarining: Bring a small amount of Duct Tape with you (1 foot) or put it over the holes ahead of time. The two rows of 5/8" holes can easily be covered by a couple of pieces of tape for the plunge. The intake will essentially revert to stock with the holes covered up.

It wuld be fun for sure to get together with you guys for a dual sport ride in the area.
Being new here, I was unaware that you have the Yami jets. Taking the carb off was no big deal----except for getting the airbox connector back on the carb.

Holy S#%^ !!!!!!!!!!!!
I just installed the 130 jet and the spacers that Centerline sold to me (thank you)and I'll have to say "what a difference"Big Smile [:D]
Thanks to Babaganoush and Centerline for all there research !!!! It made it easy !!!!
Just to add ~ I did not take my carb off the bike. All I needed to do was take off the throttle cables from the bracket disconnect the fuel line and breather line, loosen the air box and intake screws twist the carb so the top was on the right side of the bike and take apart !!! 35min !!! Also I did this mod on a 2007 bought in CA and the only difference I noticed from the pic's that Centerline posted was the bowl had a rubber gasket that looked like it sat in a groove and it did not need to be replaced (no leaks).
But I also only have 150 miles on her.
I too am running a FMF Power Core 4 Pipe and a Direct Hit's Spark Enhancer.
Thanks again fellas,
DF

Centerline,

Very good post/pictorial on re-jetting a late model carb. I have a slight problem with a '94 that the wife and I just bought. #1, it's a California model, #2, we just bought it and it's only got 350 miles on it. That's correct, a 14 year old bike with only 350 miles on it. My problem is, when it's cold, the choke is all the way out, it runs perfect, no hesitation at all. When it warms up, the choke is pushed in and I get a slight hesitation on a "Cracked throttle" setting. That is, when your holding 30 mph on flat level ground and the throttle is barely cracked to maintain that speed, you get this uneven smoothness, almost like it's missing at speed. It's not, 'cause you give it the slightest amount of throttle from that position, and you're off and running down the road.

The warmer it gets, the better it runs but, that takes a little while. I would like it to run better right off choke. My carb is considerably different than the one you wrote up. I suspect it's the earlier version that people are talking about. Mine also has the "mixture" screw exposed in the open but, you have to use a really little screw driver up side down to get to the screw to adjust it. I'll try that first before I tear apart the carb and re-jet anything. Again, nice write-up.

hey centerline, great job on the step by step... i was wondering if i can get some clarification on the washers you got. in the link babaganouch posted the mcmaster washers as ".010" but you acknowledged them to be .001 in your picture. can we assume this was a typo and they are infact .010 so 5 will be a .050 changed from stock?

I Don't think he's on here anymore Sanhozeezee , but you want the total washer thickness at .050" .. or in that ballpark .

Centerline posted two great pictures on the first page of this thread showing the float bowl area with the capped (small hole in center) adjustment jet. It is toward the end of the many great pictures he took. Gerry

There should be a flat head screw in there  .. I drilled a small hole first and then  drilled larger until I could see the screw slot (brass) You have about 1/4" before you hit the screw top ... Count the turns when you screw it in and then screw it out and it'll take anything left of that cap off when it comes out ... Take your time , ask any questions

My elevation is 1140Ft and I have stock exhaust and intake and I want to leave it that way.

Pilot screw adjustment was set at 1 turn out from the factory! I turned it out 2 3/4 I ordered and installed a TK 130 Main jet and waiting to install the .10 shims when they arrive.

I'm guessing I should start with 4 shims as this pictorial had a pipe installed? I'm I heading in the right direction/

Thanks to all for the great info on this site:)

Hi, Is anyone here at about 4500 ft? I was going to start with a 128 jet and work my way up from there. I usually only go from here to higher elevation. So more air would be a better deal. Thanks to Centerline and all others for blazing the trails.
