Jimbo,
I'm sorry to report that when subjected to the "Idiot skids in mud, crashes headlong into large boulder" tensile strength test, the amazing cafe shield met an early demise.

<img src=" http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i261/rhodetrip/hitchbox017.jpg " border="0" />

I'm going to need a replacement, so check your email!
Thanks,
Rhode Trip

aka"the other Jim C."

On edit: WTF is wrong with this picture?? The code looks fine and the picture shows in the preview??

Jimbo,
The shield is here. It took me longer to unpack it ,than to install it.

Great design and looks great. (like it belongs there)

The check is on the way.

Thanks again,

Ouch! eldavo, I guess I better send you a spare too. Im glad you are not broken and I am also glad it looks like the shield broke and not your head lamp/cowl assembly. (I am having a Twilight Zone Moment here!!) Crazy coinsidences.

Jimbo, it was RI who had the mud crash and broke the shield.
I just posted that I added it to the Wiki, saw his IMG tags were wrong, so edited my post for his photo to display. Edited now to appear in a quote box.

Take care Jimbo, I'm sure nobody wants you to be overcome by the windshield vapours!

Jimbo I haven't filled in the before/after scorecard to evaluate the shield (I saw early on in the thread when writing the wiki article).
I do get a fair bit of buffetting, but I am 5'8", my seated crotch to chin height is ~65cm (2foot).
I imagine for the bigger-than-texas USA guys over 6foot it's probably the clear air I get when I get off the seat a little and can hear the less turbulant air.
I'm not going to do anything until I have my final seat/tank combo sorted, in case the seat is a bit higher, less screen adjustment required.

What is your advice on the idea of cutting the top lip down?  Will a jigsaw for plastic cut OK, or can the shield fracture?  If it is OK to cut, once I'm ready, I'll try to measure "bum off seat" height somehow while riding, then divide that by half and cut the shield lip down by that much.

Has anyone else adjusted the screen lower somehow?

Hey Dave I cringe a bit thinking about RE-doing a shield, How about I send you a "Blem" shield to cut down or you can give me a measurment and I will cut one down for you, If you do cut it I would recommend a band saw due to the curvature of the plastic. and then sand or file edges before flameing the edges smooth.

Thanks Jimbo, I'll hold off until I sort out my tank/seat combo.  I put a hole in the plastic tank, so there's some higher priorities on that ;)

Hey Jimbo, can you post the current going rate for your farings in your sig? Seems the price has gone up over time and it's a pita to read through all 20 pages to figure it out. Thanks bro, great work btw. Can't wait to get mine :)

Hi Rhgwynn, I can do that but it creates a problem. Right now the shields are $45.00 USD + $10.00 packing & shipping for a total of $55.00 USD.(thats to the USA)

I'm using a "Keep it simple" style of providing the shields and it is a system that helps me keep people from falling through the cracks

#1First I get an inquiry/request where I tell them the current price and how to pay Etc.(This gives me some controll)

#2 Second I get the: Name, Shipping address, Color preference, & Phone #

#3 I pack em up if  I have them ready, or make them if I need to and ship with out payment. I include payment instructions in the email and in the packing.

#4 when I get them shipped I wait for the customer to recieve the shield and then pay me, this confirms that they have recieved the Cafe-Shield and I can close that file.

This acomplishes a few not so obvious things such as:

If I let people just send payment to me and they forget to tell me a color prefrence or some how transccribe their mailing address incorrectly we both get stuck.( I like to be sure of the address, color Pref. Before they pay me)

Some times I dont make what they want ( like that NEON blue is un-avalable now) if you the customer sends payment for a pink shield I get under pressure to make that happen and I need to have a boundry there as much as I would like to do custom colors I have a real job and family to care for too.; )

Sometimes  I am to busy to make a batch right now, and I dont have any orders. If I posted the cost and everything on my Forum signature, I could open My mail box or Paypal account and find I have 3 dozen orders to fill that have already paid.

I would be scrambling to fill orders. and answering (where is my shield?) questions all day.

I prefer to take the risk of sending  the shields First, just so my sketched out life dosn't hurt my TW friends and forum buddys here.

If you fall through the cracks, don't get your shield, and you havent paid me yet , its no big deal, call me & we will fix it, But if you pay first and get it late or not at all due to JIMBO C's hectic day, week, or whatever I get nervous and. this thing here becomes UN-FUN. I had a very nice fellow a few months ago who asked me "where is my shield?" and I replied to him I dont know WHO are you sir? he said he was a paying customer and had sent me a check, I could not find it initally untill I re sifted the junk mail in the barn trash can, I found it and promptly appoligized. I wish he would have let me ship it first so he could have had it.

So far (to the best of my knowlege I have had no delenquint payments) I do keep track but try to keep this thing fun and like a hobby that benifits my ego and my friends here.

Warm Longwinded Regards, Jimbo
