Found a perfect *cheap* cargo pack for the Cyclerack
Reply Quote
I was searching for a cheap but durable cargo pack to attach to the rear of the bike on the Cycleracks rack. I ran across the MOLLE Main pack and dimensionally it seemed a perfect fit. So I bought this one to try it out and DAMN if it doesn't fit like a glove! There are 8 mounting points, 3 on each side and two in the rear so this pack holds firm. I loaded it up with some camping gear and it's pretty huge! Also has tons of lashing points via daisy chains so lashing gear would be a cinch! (pun intended). The inside main flap is 100% velcro enclosed heavy vinyl so it would be perfect for maps or other sundries you want to keep dry. I didn't load the pack to full capacity but you can see how much it holds. There is a top accesory pack to keep tools or handy items close as well. For $15 new??? Can't beat that!

I was lashing down my daypack, but I'm afraid to keep it on the bike. I could buy 5 or 6 of these for the price of my daypack, so who cares? It's going to be great for commuting to work too- will hold everything I need.  Here's some pics. If you want the info on the guy I ordered from off EBay I'll post up a link. This thing is heavy duty Milspec, not some chinese knock-off. The NSN military/DOD tag is inside.. A great deal and a great fit on the Cyclerack!

Man, that looks exactly like my TW is going to next week...same rack, same windscreen.   I don't have MOLLE pack, but I just may have one of those as well now...

Here's his store link and the pack: http://cgi.ebay.com/Main-Pack-LOAD-MOLLE-II-Speciality-Defense-Systems-New_W0QQitemZ150293979267QQihZ005QQcategoryZ2021QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

I got mine for a little less on auction.. You may want to e-mail him.. This is a great fit, no kidding. I can pick the bike up from the rear using the straps and the MOLLE doesn't budge.

If you search MOLLE main pack, you can find them as well.

threerun-

Just curious: How did you get a California TW back there?

I do like the pack.

Bought it from a guy in PA.. If it's a Cali model, I'll need to undo it!

Everyone I've talked to says unplugging the canister really doesn't improve anything. I think it is just a filter for the fuel fumes. Some people decorate their cans.

If it's a charcoal canister it shouldn't make much of a difference. They adsorb fuel vapor.
I'm surprised that only CA models have it.

I like the look and love the price. Great idea for storage, looks like you have more room too if you want to load it up. I would put the tools (if heavy) on the bottom or as low as possible.

I love it. This is exactly what I was looking for but couldn't find.

I just ordered a used surplus one for 10 bux and 7 shipping on ebay.

There is also a guy on ebay selling packs of 6 for $24+18 shipping. So that's $7 a piece shipped if you need a bunch of them.

Just make sure it's an official DOD issue- the NSN tag should be inside. There is a ton of Chinese crap flooding the market; knock offs with crappy stitching.

Here's what it looks like un-loaded:

Flat as a pancake.

I can attest that this soft pack carried a case of beer, a bag of chips, hamburger, hotdogs and other sundries for Sunday football :D
The cinch straps kept everything nice and tight.
