I'm trying to learn to focus on the bright side of life. My first thought when I opened the package was "WOW, these are really well made, how did he do .......such and so .......", but my second thought was drat, now I've got no excuse and need to get going on checking and filling as needed, the battery cells w/ distilled h2o.

George, let me put it to you like this... having to pull out a socket set, an extenstion and a ratchet to get at those darn blind nuts makes doing a battery fluid level check a whole lot more difficult than it needs to be. With the Mule T nuts, you can just put your hand in there with the Braille method and undo what you need to to get the seat off and access the battery. When reaasemblying, you still need to take a peek under the seat to get them started, but I am one satisfied customer. It's a very worthwhile addition to any TW200, I highly recommend them. Well thought out and highly functional addition, I think. They aren't Bling Bling at all, you wouldn't know they were there unless you made the effort to stick your nose under there and look for them. I give them a 5 star rating.

I made mine from a 6mm threaded coupler which is 38mm long and threaded in a 6mm set screw and then snuged it down lightly with a wrench to see where to drill the hole for the T-handle. I think it's great that some people are crafty and come up with neat ideas like that. I love fabricating parts. Funny though how some folks are praised for selling a neat item like the T-nut and others are condemed for selling other parts. |

It's all a matter of courtesy and competence.
You will notice that the guys who sell neat stuff here NEVER use the hard sell, and NEVER call people 'cheap' for not buying their stuff. And, at least from my point of view, most guys here are not impressed by 'bling'; they like well thought-out, functional parts that have some practical value.
The people who draw criticism (even though some members take it over-the-top), are those who try to cram it down people's throats, over-hype, and resort to calling people 'cheap' to 'motivate' (ha!) buyers. No harm in letting people know that you have a 'bling' item for sale, as CaptainCrossup, did, way back when. But if you don't get a response, better to move on than to talk trash.
Lately, I have been a bit embarassed by my own pointed responses to the noise on this forum, especailly since we have new folks joining, who may get the wrong impression. So this is my last off-topic response. I will try to refrain from getting involved in the mud-slinging, no matter how tempting...

Thanks Steve, I get it. I am not so sure why I let myself get caught up in it. Usually I just let it roll off my back.

Mule Nuts look great. I loved the idea so I went about trying to come up with something a lot cheaper. So for less than $3 I made my own hand removable bolts (monsterbolts). I used allen wrenches, two washers, and two allen bolts. Cut the wrenches to length and then JB welded everything together. Then shot it with a bit of Flat Black Rustoleum. Just throwing out another option for people that want to make their own.

thanks for you all's inspiration. don't want to steal mule's thunder. i went to lowe's with the list of materials posted by mule to make a set of mule nutz, they didn't have a SINGLE item on the list. i had to stand there and make something up on my own on the spot. i wanted to use stainless steel hardware. i got two 60mm x 6mm x 1.0 stainless bolts, two wing nuts and some washers (not stainless) that are intended to be used with those powder actuated fasteners (they're REALLY thick washers). i chucked the bolts in my lathe and ground off the hex heads to the same dia. as the bolt shank. i threaded the ground off stub (about 1/4") w/ a 10/24 thread (i cuoldn't find metric 6mm wing nuts) and threaded on the wing nuts, put locktite on 'em and even staked the threads so the wing nuts can't unscrew. i put a piece of silicone fuel line on teh bolt (wanted to use black rubber but didn't have any on hand) (the tube is just to make it look thicker, looks spindly w/o it) threaded the thick washers and threaded on the thick washer w/ some locktite. takes a lot of writing to explain what's pretty basic in a photo. i swaged on some cable ties because i was worried these things could vibrate loose being only finger tight and i thought it would look cool too.
thanks to mule and the list for the inspiration. it is nice to be able to remove the seat w/o any tools.

Posted this b4. Wing nuts fit fine with a little grinding. Thread a couple of properly sized studs into the seat and grind the wingnuts a little till they spin on.

Not to propose a solution to a problem already solved 7 times (at least), I'm tempted to try to use a bolt with an allen head. The problem is using a socket and ratchet or power handle, but its not such a problem to use a t-handled allen wrench to loosen the seat bolts. Sure hand power is wonderful but if you really want to tighten it and remove it easily think about an allen wrench. Cheers. Tom

I have a set of Mule Nuts that I bought from a guy who sold his TW. I think I paid thirty bucks for the pair, used. He did mention a problem with them rubbing on the tire. When the suspension was at full compression. I have not had this problem. They are great for me as the battery water needs to be checked constantly if you want it to last. And hold a charge. Even with a battery tender. Which is also a great item to have.

I just wanted to say thank you all for the ideas in this thread. Quick release for the seat is really nice.
Mule, You are indeed a craftsman. You may already know this, but the clevis pins for truck brakes are anodized and do not require painting to remain rust free. They last quite a while without oxidation. The cotter key hole is not a standard pin size, but can be easily enlarged.
Thank you most of all. You are doing some nice things.

You guys really need to stop kicking the dead horse with all this "put me down for a set" stuff. Mule hasn't posted to this thread for almost a year and a half. Whatever happened to the dude, he stopped coming around and as far as I know isn't peddling his wares anymore. Sorry to be all crappin on your parade from the balcony..
If anyone knows John personally and wants to tell me I'm wrong, or knows how to get in touch with him to place an order, go on now, speak up!
