I suspect John visits here from time to time but the last I heard, someone had stolen his bike. I think it maybe hard to be a TW forum guy without a TW. I certainly hope he will get another bike and we will hear from him again. A couple of folk have come up with a simple straight forward solution to minimize the frustration involved in getting the seat off. I will present the "first" "missing link award" to Crackpottery for an easy to replicate 'seat nut'. With the right length, seems like it should work fine, and with a heavy duty 'keychain ring' will act as a tiedown point as John had mentioned in another post. Gerry

Thanks G.
More dumb ideas to come. Painting my tank metalic blue. Also trying clear reflective spray paint. Ordered some cartoon donkey stickers in yellow.
No skis for me though!

From this thread or elsewhere I got the tip to simply Loctite a short piece of 6mm (8mm?) threaded rod into the bottom of the seat. Nothing has to be unscrewed to lift the seat & it stays where it should be the rest of the time.

Mule,
I just bought a new oil plug for my TW. Do you still install the magnets in them? If so, I would like to send in the new one and also buy two sets of the seat bolts as well. Please let me know how to arrange this. I will send the check with the plug. Actually I need two plugs, do I need to send them both in? Thanks. Paul. 480-734-5079

Paul,
Mule doesn't vist the TW site anymore as I have been told.
You can make your own "Mule" magnet, which is what I did. Buy a a good strong earth magnet and JB weld it in the bottom.
I had some problems with lining up my spring as the magnet would pull it to one side. So I drilled a small hole inside my oil plug to hold the end of the spring in place when putting my plug back in.
Worked like a charm. I can post some pictures if you need. Or search here and you will get some ideas.

rhgwynn, here's a more forum friendly way to say that:
Hey Topo, since this thread is SO huge now, you might have missed the post that said Mule isn't making any more of these "nuts", so it's turned into a DIY project. Looks like he's provided plenty of instruction on how to do it, though.

Topo, should I be on the receiving end, I would be inclined to feel better about your suggested response as well. Gerry

Thanks for the tip on DIY, elkchasin TW. Love to see photos of the hole drilled in the plug to hold the spring.

My thought is, that going with the knob, you are threading a conventional (USA) thread into a metric hole (seat). Gerry

The all thread is metric, the handle is US. I dabbed the inside of the handle with JBWeld and cranked her down. Should be fine.
