Hello guys,
I just picked up a 86 tw 200 this summer. I am now just getting to work and modify it.
First thing that I have noticed, The little guy it very cold blooded. Man, it is very hard to start and you have to let it warm up for a while.
Second thing i have noticed, riding it down the highway, the thing is screaming going down the road, but not going very fast. 60 it topped out.
Bike is stock, as far as i know.
Didn't know if there is any links for carb mods and gearing mods. Also exhaust mods.
Thanks
Aaron

Welcome, As stated, the search function is your friend. Lots written on these subjects. Yes, you can gear it up a bit for the highway, but at the expense of low end. What kind of riding do you do? They are setup lean from the factory. Search idle mixture screw adjustment. TTR 230 pipe will work with minor mods. Others with more mods.

Thanks guys, the one reason that i got this bike, was for one of my workers who loves to ride, but only stands 5'4. Hell, he has a hell of a time standing flat foot on the tw 200.
Anyway, want to get this bike so he can dual sport ride with us. I will ride my KLR or XRL. Anyway, we don't ride too fast, but we would like the TW be able to keep up when we decide to ride the highway. 65 or 70 if needed. Not sure if we will be able to make that happen. The other thing, is to fix that damn carb problem. I will use the search tool. If i have any problems, i will chime in.
Thanks
Aaron

You will not get a consistent 65 or 70 from a TW. Every hill and headwind will knock speed down about 10mph or more. If you want to go that fast get a different bike.

With a 44 tooth sprocket and on flat roads, he could keep 65 easy enough for the most part. Although admittedly headwinds could at times be a problem even then. But QWERTY is right, if you want a bike that will comfortably and securely maintain 70 on the highways and hills and such, the TW is definitely not the right bike. Consider a DR350 or XT350 in the cheap.

All right guys, i finally got to work on the tw today.
This is what i have found out with this little guy.
Main Jet is a 114
pilot jet is a 40
The long tube that the main jet screws into is a 10 or something 10. Not sure.
Rear sprocket is a 50 tooth and front sprocket is a 14.
No mods to the air box or pipe.
So that is what i have. Going to be doing some searching on here for mods and jet settings. If anyone can chime in go ahead.
Thanks
Aaron,
Also, sometime tonight i should have a few pictures up of this thing.

Compared to your other bikes, the TW will feel like it is screaming at 60. I just can't get used to it. Others do it all the time with no problem. This is a high revving little engine with a rev limiter set at 9000 if I recall correctly. I just keep mine below 50. It's a fun little bike that is fun to mod into whatever you want it to be.

I don't ride this bike very offten, but I have a lot of people who don't ride very much, love to jump on it and ride with us. I just want it to run a little fast down the road and start a little better and idle a little better.

A search should answer all your questions. Clean carb, throw a 115 jet in, open pilot jet 2-2.5 turns. May need to shim needle. 47 tooth sprocket.
If you want to go a little further there's threads about punching out the stock baffle and opening up the air box or removing the snorkle.
1987 might be tough to get it to run 70. 2001 and after have a different carb and probably just a fraction more power.

I don't need it to run 70. But i would like it to have a little more top end speed. Going from a 50 to a 47 or even less teeth then that is going to make a huge speed diff.

Just my opinion, but anything over 47 and you're going to lose pulling power at speed.
