O-Ring Chain Noticeably Robs Power?
Reply Quote
I was considering changing my rear sprocket to 55T and add an O-Ring chain. My TW only has 700mi so figured I would keep the stock Counter Sprocket.

When I contacted my local dealer, he suggesting staying away from the O-Ring chain as it noticeably robs power from smaller CC bikes!!!

Have anyone else found this to be true?

Yes it's true!!!! In fact the best bet is to remove the chain all together, that way you will suffer NO power loss........."OK" ...just kidding. If there is a power loss it's not enough for me to notice.

I haven't noticed a decrease with mine either. And I'm usually super/over sensitive to any changes like that.

We are talking tenths of a sec...Unless you race Motocross, or Drag race, the Benefits FAR Outweigh the loss in power/speed. I have DID X -Ring, and i love it!

Find a different dealer. Yours is full of crap. If o-rings cost power it's not enough to notice.

I have not noticed any but then I switched to a 55 tooth gear at the same time. Here is my post:

From all I've read, it just doesn't matter on our Tdubs. But a 55t with ATV tire does in my opinion.

Ok, I feel confident from the consistant feedback that it wouldn't be a poor decision to cross over to the O-Ring side!

Thank you all for your opinions.

Aussie Wes Here! Ignore the people that are telling you that your dealer is dumb & doesn't know his buisness. He will be in buisness when the others are closed down. He doesn't want to sell you one good quality chain, he wants to get repeat sales out of the shitty chain along with replacement sprockets that have been ruined by the cheap chain! OK now the serious reply, the "O" Ring chain does have extra drag ,and you may loose a little power but I doubt if you will notice! Things that you will notice :--- 1. Smoother bike to ride ---no nasty vibration. 2. Longer Sprocket life. 3. Longer chain life. 4. No more howling chain noise. 5. The added satisfaction of knowing that your chain is much stronger & won't snap & wrap itself around the front sprocket & smash the side covers & also bend the drive shaft. sEEYA!wES!
A good bike in the wilderness is a great companion!

Damn, well my drag racing TW won't see an o-ring chain then. I'm hoping to break 30 seconds in the 1/4. LOL
Lovin' my TW even more after my last trip to Death Valley-Josh

Do you have a DID 428V, or a DID 428VM drive chain?  If you have the 428VM drive chain, may I ask where you bought it? Smile [:)]
